On December 1, 2009, I wrote a Facebook note called 25 New Things that I Have Learned now that I am Single-Again...
I thought maybe I should write a new list...so here goes...
1. There is NO reason to be afraid of what the future might hold. He holds every second of it in His hands and has proven repeatedly over the last two years that He is in control! Especially of those things that are so far out of my control. I can trust Him!
2. The only true peace that passes all understanding comes from God alone and from knowing deep down to my core that He is in charge and handling it all for me.
3. My girls are going to be okay...what happens today won't effect their eternity and they won't remember it near as long as it takes me to get over it.
4. Someone can randomly threaten to take their lives, but until God says it's their time to go, they will be fine. And once He decides that its time for them to be with Him, nothing is going to stop it. Timing is in His hands.
5. I am no longer going to settle. God's plans for me are so much bigger, better, fuller than all I can hope or imagine and when I just let go and give Him free reigns, the results blow me away! In the best way!
6. Don't rush things! There are so many benefits to taking things slow and letting God work out all the details.
7. Give people a chance to be themselves without being disappointed that they don't live up to my unrealistic expectations. It is better, for me, to have no expectations and let them set the expectations for me then to come into it with my own set and be disappointed...for no fault of the other person. Let people be who they are. And if I can't handle who they are, then they don't have to be a part of our lives. If I can handle who they are, then welcome them with open arms.
8. Fill the house with people at any and every opportunity. I am happiest when I have a house full of those I care about. Why in the world did it take so long for me to see that and break out of my self-inflicted-isolated shell?
9. Laughter! I need lots of it! For lots of reasons!
10. Take a chance at love again. As many times as necessary to see what God has in store for the future. Love hard on all those that God puts around me...it multiplies...it doesn't run out. Don't be afraid to love on my friends and family!
11. Don't hold against anyone the failings of others. Get to a place inside myself where I am healed enough to not drag others down. And go out and be a part of life with others.
12. These girls are such a blessing! God knew how much we would need each other and is great at showing me what things speak most to each one of them.
13. There are still "firsts" to be had and celebrated! And that will always be true! There is no way to see, and do, and experience everything.
14. Don't mourn the past or think of it as wasted time. Choose instead to learn from it and keep moving forward.
15. Life-long learning is a privilege. There will ALWAYS be something new that I can learn.
16. My life goal is now to grow closer to God with every new day! To use everything that comes my way as an excuse to go to Him and learn more from Him and find my value in Him.
17. He cares about even the tiniest of details...knows every tear that seeps from my eyes and whether it is due to pain or laughter or allergies. He is the author and finisher of my faith.
18. God NEVER gives up on me. He loved me anyways...even on my worst days...even on the days I pushed everyone away or gathered them to me so tight they couldn't breathe.
19. Being in church on Sunday morning, no matter what city I am in, is vital to my health and well-being. And it is for my benefit to take notes...makes me pay closer attention and helps it sink in better.
20. Smiling is never to be taken for granted!
21. The power of prayer is greater than we can ever imagine. When we pray we are releasing the heavenly beings to fight our spiritual battles on our behalf. Daniel was a man loved by the heavenly beings because his prayers, constantly freed them up to fight the battles. It is one of the most beneficial things we will ever do with our time on this earth! And sometimes a prayer can reach out to a friend where the distance won't allow the arms to reach.
22. Just because a friend was part of your past does NOT mean they can't be part of your future. Renewed friendships are something to be treasured.
23. Make sure you take time out to be WITH the ones you love. There is nothing more important, that can't be put off. Time is short. Make the most of it while you have it, you aren't guaranteed any more.
24. Hugs! Hugs! Hugs! And snuggling with those you love...the list for me would include my girls, my parents, and my "man". These are things I do NOT take for granted and appreciate more than they will ever know.
25. Try again. Anything worth doing is worth doing again. Try again. You never know, this might be the time it works...the time that God can use to make big things happen. The time that others are encouraged by the way it all falls into place. The time that you don't want to miss for anything.
